Sheryl’s Summer Wish List

Hi everyone,

As you all know, summer is by far my favorite season. No school, great weather, time with friends, beach days, movie nights, and of course – fabulous fashion trends. Although I love shopping at various places online and in store, I’ve always wanted to easily get all the brands I love off one website. This is why I love websites like Inspired by the beautiful boutiques lining New York City’s Spring Street in SoHo, the brand emulates the experience of having all these shops available in one place.

My favorite part of the site is the accessories store which includes over 850 brands, some of my favorites being: Benefit CosmeticsKate Spade, Jack Rogers, Rebecca Minkoff, Free People, Steve Madden, and Urban Outfitters.  There are even high end brands like Alexander McQueen, GivenchySalvatore Ferragamo, Kenneth Cole, Rebecca Taylor, Ted Baker, and Rachel Zoe.

Since the site has so many different brands to choose from, different people can shop there and guarantee that they will find something to suit their styles.

Today, I’ll be staring a few of my top picks that are on my radar for this season. All of the items I mention are from the brands on the site. Be sure to check them out with the links listed:

  1. Kimchi Blue Gina Jo Sweetheart RomperScreen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.18.06 AM.png

I was so excited to see Urban Outfitters on this site, and even more excited to see that this flouncy number was on SALE! I love this lightweight, sleeveless sweetheart neck romper with flouncy flared shorts. It looks super vintage with buttons + pin tucking, but also very chic and girly.

2. Luna Round Cat Eye Sunglasses

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.30.03 AMScreen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.29.57 AM

These totally remind me of the QUAY sunglasses, but at a fraction of the price! I love the gold color, as opposed to silver, because it compliments my tanner complexion, so these are perfect for me. These sunnies add such a cool, chic vibe to any outfit.

3. Steve Madden Stecy Heel – Black

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.39.24 AM.png

I’ve always wanted a pair of sleek and simple black heeled sandals that were the perfect height. I was contemplating buying them for full price on Nordstrom’s website, but I saw these for 25% off on!

4. Benefit Cosmetics they’re real! lengthening mascara

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.41.13 AM.png

I’ve heard so many great reviews of this mascara that I need to try it for myself. It has the ability to lengthen, volumize, curl, and separate all in this small bottle.

5. Rebecca Taylor Pickstitch Jacket

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.47.29 AM.png

I’m a huge fan of any jacket that can spice up a simple look, especially Moto jackets. You guys know that I love my GAP Pink Moto Jacket, but this Rebecca Taylor piece is higher-end and better-quality. I love the quilted texture, asymmetric zip front, and exposed metal zip pockets.

6. Rebecca Minkoff MOTO BUCKET – BLACK

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.50.45 AM.png

Another huge trend for sumer has been leather bucket bags. I’m not sure why (since it’s not the most convenient – structurewise), but one can’t deny that they are super unique and interesting. These bags are a happy medium between a small purse and large tote bag. Known for buckles and details, Rebecca Minkoff’s bucket bag is both elevated and edgy that you can sling over your shoulder for summer.

7. Ted Baker NATLEAH Scallop detail ribbed dress – Mint

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.56.00 AM.png

Guys, I think I’ve actually fallen in love with this dress. If you know my style at all, you know that I’m a huge girly-girl. This pastel mint color is bold enough to make a statement but also muted at the same time. I think this dress is perfect for brunch in the city, Easter, or a birthday party.

8. Free People Denim Lace-Up Mini Skirt

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 11.59.09 AM.png

Free People is typically known for it’s bohomien, free spirit style. Though I don’t shop there often, I’m in love with this denim mini skirt. Denim skirts are definitely coming back from the ’90s. And this particular skirt is unique for the lace up and pleated details.

9. Urban Outfitters Kimchi Blue Pleated Maxi Skirt

Screen Shot 2016-06-26 at 12.03.19 PM.png

I don’t normally wear maxi skirts because of my petite frame (5’3″ and proud!). But I can’t help but fall in love with this pastel pink color, the side slit, and the pleated details. If I style it, I would wear the exact outfit as the model: a simple white tank top, brown sandals, and gold jewelry. Effortless and chic!

10. Soludos Suede Lace-Up Tassel Platform Espadrille Sandals

Lastly, I have been on the hunt fot the perfect brown espadrilles. Another major trend for summer 2016, these shoes are comfortable like Vans but stylish like flats. Started in the Mediterranean, Soludos is one of the most common brands for these shoes.

I hope you guys got some fashion inspiration for Summer 2016. Be sure to check out for more of what’s on trend and how you can stay on trend for the best prices!

Hope you enjoyed!

Palmer’s Collaboration

Recently, I was sent these amazing Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Flip Balm Ultra Lip Moisture in three flavors: Creamy Coconut (green), Ripe Mango (orange), and Juicy Watermelon (pink). At first, I thought the packaging resembled the EOS products. However, instead of a time-consuming twist opening, these Palmer’s Flip Balms have unique and innovative packaging. The one of a kind cover allows for ease of application and easily flips and locks back in place. Moreover, their quality greatly surpasses EOS. Since their flipbalms are made with pure Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamin E and pure Coconut Oil, your lips will be moisturized for 8+ hours.

Not only does Palmer’s refresh and hydrate your lips in one simple flip and click, but the brand also promotes sustainability and environ-friendliness. Their products contain No Parabens, No Phthalates, No Petrolatum, and No Gluten – how amazing is that?!

Personally, my favorite flavor is the Creamy Coconut, because of the tropical aroma as you glide the flipbalm over your lips. It is safe to say that these Flip Balms have become a favorite of mine; I carry them all the time now! Palmer’s is definitely an ethical and favorable brand – I can’t wait to try more of their products!

Now, Palmer’s has a global presence, available in over 80 countries offering the #1 Cocoa Butter brand in the world. This unique heritage, product innovation, and commitment to quality has made Palmer’s a trusted household name, used by families for generations.

Feeling Like Blair Waldorf

On my way to go to Manhattan today, I decided to spice up my look and try Blair Waldorf’s outrageous and elaborate preppy style. However, instead of spend $450 on one Valentino skirt, I opted for the J.Crew sale section.

My Inspiration Photos: See how Leighton Meester’s stylist coordinated the top and skirt?

Dress for Success: Business Lookbook

Have a job interview coming up? A meeting?  A presentation?

In all of these instances, looking your best in a corporate setting is a major component of how good you feel. As the saying goes, “If you look good, you feel good.”

Recently, I attended a leadership training conference, so I put together a few different business casual and business professional options for you all:

  1. Pop of Color

Many people associate business clothes with neutral colors, such as black, navy, white, and beige. However, I love adding a bright pop of color, such as this pastel pink, into an outfit. I paired this Pink tie up blouse with black pants, strappy heels, and a crossbody bag.

2. Classic Look

This look is what I imagine to be the “typical businesswoman” look. It features a crisp white blouse with a pencil skirt and basic three-inch pumps.

4. Suit Up!

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 12.49.36 PM

To make any outfit business professional, just take the last outfit and add a navy blazer to it. It instantly makes it a suit, and you’ll look so classy.

4. Little Black Dress (LBD)

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 12.49.14 PM

Another easy way to be business professional is an elegant, form-fitting LBD that touches the knees. While LBDs are a staple to any girl’s closet, it is important that the dress comes just above the knees because you don’t want to look like you’re heading out to the club.

I hope this lookbook gave you guys some tips and tricks to rock that presentation or interview and secure that job!

Top Fashion Picks For Spring

Hey loves!

With spring just around the corner, I thought I’d show you what I’ve been eyeing while shopping online. My favorite stores are Zara, Forever 21, and J.Crew. Living in NYC has definitely given me that “city chic” style, but I also love the “Down South Prep” look as well. Overall, you could say that I’m a fusion of the two contrasting styles.

Enjoy my top picks for spring!

    199.00 USD

This jacket looks like it was made for an edgy biker girl (aka NOT ME), but I think black leather jackets are a staple in every girl’s closet. They could instantly dress up a white t-shit and boyfriend jeans.

3. I NEED THIS SHIRT IN MY LIFE! (Just waiting for it to go on sale). The cutouts and scallop details are just so girly; this shirt was made for me.

39.90 USD

4. This spring, off the shoulder tops are making a comeback from the 90s, and I definitely support them. Simple shirts (like the one below) add such a cute element to your outfit.

New Look Frill Off Shoulder Denim Top

5. Here’s an off the shoulder dress. I love this color and print, as well! Super cute.

Contemporary Ornate Mini Dress

6. Cutout A-Line Mini Dress

22.90 USD

I think simple , solid-color dresses are so nice for spring. Since there are no distracting prints, it makes the look more casual for school. This yellow color is also just so appealing to the eye; you’ll def stand out from the crowd!

Screen Shot 2016-02-28 at 2.52.49 PM

Originally $79.50. But its on sale for $38.99!

Call me a mom, but these chiffon blouses are so my style. Not only are the classic and time-less, but they can be dressed up as business casual or dressed down for school. I especially love the dots on the top too.

Screen Shot 2016-02-28 at 3.12.35 PM.png

Originally $75. But now on sale for $44.50!

Again, another one of these business-like blouses. The light pink one is just too adorable to pass up.

Screen Shot 2016-02-28 at 3.14.58 PM.png

I’ve always loved pop-over shirts, because they’re so easy to throw on in the springtime, as well as instantaneously make you look put together. When I came across this on J.Crew, I loved that it was short sleeves too.

Screen Shot 2016-02-28 at 3.17.14 PM.png

10. Lastly, I’ve been eyeing these TORY BURCH MILLER SANDALS in PATENT LEATHER since last summer, but never wanted to splurge on them. But I’ve been saving up, so hopefully I’ll get my hands on these by the end of winter. These patent sand thong sandals are so classic (there’s a trend here…) and easy to pair with anything. Whether you’re wearing Lululemon leggings or wearing a cute sundress, these shoes are perfect for every-day use.

$195.00 USD

Those are all of my top picks for the upcoming spring season. I think they show an array of styles that are perfect for anyone.

What I’m Loving – January Edition

1. Anything Turtle-neck!

When I was little, my mother used to dress me in tight turtlenecks all the time – and I absolutely DESPISED it. However, now that I’ve grown accustomed to infinity scarfs and necklaces, I love how turtlenecks keep you warm and looking put-together at the same time. There isn’t a need to wear a scarf anymore. Just throw on a turtleneck sweater and you’re good to go!

2. Ripped Denim Jeans

Ripped jeans have been all the rage since summertime, and it’s no wonder why. Being extremely versatile, if you’re style is edgy or classic, they are easy to style. If you’re not sure what your style is, don’t fret; pair you’re jeans with a basic white t-shirt and some cute accessories, and you’ll be turning heads instantly.

3. Eyebrows on Fleek

I know the whole bold eyebrow look has been popular for a long time, but I never found the best eyebrow pencil/powder for me. I’ve tried the LORAC pencil and Anastasia brow palette, but when I discovered the Elizabeth Arden Natural Eye Brow Pencil, I instantly fell in love. It’s great for my brows because I have thin, fine hairs. You also don’t have to sharpen it because it comes in a twistable pencil (with an added grooming brush on the opposite end).

4. Bold Berry Lips

As a girl with warm skin tones, nude lips look absolutely terrible on me. If you’re in a similar boat, opt for red or berry hues. They make brown or hazel eyes pop! Especially in winters where you’re bundled up in neutral clothes, bold lips can really make an outfit stand out.

MAC Rebel Lipstick.jpg

Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 2.18.44 PM.png

5. Basic Tees and Long-sleeves

I love buying soft, simple tees from Urban Outfitters, Zara, and even Forever 21. Not only are they affordable, but investing in a good-quality shirt is essential for every woman’s closet. You can dress them down with a pair of black leggings and Vans, or dress them up with black skinny jeans, ankle boots, and a leather jacket. They are so versatile and easy to style!

So that concludes today’s blog post. I hope you got an idea of my January favorites.

Cute and Comfy Outfit for Running Errands

When I envision a comfy outfit, sneakers always come to mind. I especially love these Nike Free 5.0 Shoes because they add that element of a “chic working Manhattan mom”. I just paired some GAP leggings with this chunky cable-knit sweater, and threw a J.Crew Herringbone vest over the top. To be hassle-free, I also used my Michael Kors Jet Set Logo Cross-body purse. And I was off to do some weekend errands!

What is your idea of a comfy outfit?

2015 Reflections

Now that it is officially 2016, I would like to dedicate this post to all of the wonderful opportunities, events, and experiences that occurred last year. Despite the positive outcomes as well as personal hardships, 2015 literally flew by and I’m excited for the new year!

In no particular order, besides the first:

  1. Most importantly, I started THIS lifestyle/fashion blog on exactly March 2, 2015! Creating my own platform has allowed me to create relationships with other AMAZING fashion PR bloggers (like you reading this), inspire readers with outfit and lifestyle posts, and learn about new, trendy brands of the fashion industry.
  2. In one of my blog posts, I mentioned how I wanted to explore and spend more time in Manhattan, since I live very close (in Brooklyn). Luckily, I did just that in the summer. I toured Columbia University, Barnard College, CUNY and NYU, some of my potential colleges. I also saw multiple shows: Sam Eaton’s The Quantum Eye, Matilda, The Lion King, and the Blue Man Group. Now, I am very familiar with the city from Battery Park to SoHo to Midtown to the Upper East Side.
  3. I’ve completed over 100 hours of community service. Serving my duty as a rightful citizen is very near and dear to my heart. I’m Vice President of my school’s Key Club, and my hours have piled up from volunteering with soup kitchens, health walks, and other non-profit organizations. I love giving back to the community and hope to later inspire others to do so as well.
  4. I was reached out by TRIANGL swimwear to receive one of their amazing neoprene bikinis to try.
  5. I became a Mirina Girls Brand Ambassador! They have an amazing jewelry line that is to die for.
  6. On December 15, 2015, I turned the sweet 16! Although I can’t drive in NYC until 17, it was fun to celebrate my birthday in the city with my friends.
  7. In September, I became a virtual high school intern with Her Campus Media! There, I write journalistic pieces that range in subject from editing, marketing, publicity, etc and communicate and connect with other bloggers.

Check out their website at:

8. As you know, I am an avid traveler (visited over 20 countries), so I was elated to travel to China for the Lunar New Year during spring break and northern Europe with my family this past summer. In China, I got to visit so many distant relatives and absorb myself in Chinese culture. In a short span of two weeks, we traveled to Great Britain, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Russia, Finland, and Sweden by plane, cruise ship, and many trains. I loved changing so many time zones and experiencing different cultures, food, architecture, and fashion. If you want to see photos, check out my Instagram @style.stargirl

9. Going along with that, I had my FIRST beer in Berlin (at age 15). It wasn’t that great though :/

  1. In March, I met Tavi Gevinson, who inspired me to start this blog. She started a successful fashion blog, and then moved onto feminist movements in her online magazine, Rookie Magazine. At age 19, she was featured in Teen Vogue for her growing teen fan base and influence.

11. Lastly, I’ve changed my style quite a bit. If you scroll down my Instagram, you could see that I used to wear a lot brighter preppy clothing that resembled a non-designer version of Blair Waldorf. After learning what colors best suit my skin tone and hair color, I toned down my color palette. Now, I would describe my style as “city chic”, preppy, and classic. I frequently wear grays, whites, cream, and jewel-toned colors (magenta, pink, green, navy), and shop at Zara, Urban Outfitters, J.Crew, Gap, Sheinside, and Forever 21.

I want to give a BIG thank you to everyone who has been riding along on my blogging journey. Thank you for reading, liking, and engaging in my blog posts. I wish you all a year full of love, health, and happiness!

Fall OOTD – green and neutrals

On this crisp fall day, it wasn’t too chilly but wasn’t hot either. I thought it was the perfect time to bring out my new olive shift dress from!

Since the main focus which is the dress, I included many neutral colors to balance it out. The black in my ankles boots, the brown in my leather jacket, gold in my necklace, and tan in my bag really bring the look together.

Bag: Longchamp Le Pluage Large Tote

How I Edit My Instagram Photos (Tips + Tricks)

Happy November!

Fall is the perfect time to be playing with different themes because of the variety in weather. So today, I’ll be walking you through the steps I take to edit my Instagram feed (@style.stargirl). Nowadays, Instagram “themes” are super popular because they make a gallery of photos look cohesive in color scheme, brightness, subject, etc. It’s like the photos are in a “family” – for lack of a better word.

Some tips on taking the perfect photo:

1. Lighting is KEY! I always try to take my photos at around 3-4 PM, because the sun is not super harsh/shadowy but there is still enough light. This is great for OOTD pics, so people can see your outfit details clearly.

2. For OOTD pics, I always remind the photographer (Usually my mom) to take the photos from an angle like this:

photographer kneeling

Since I am fairly short, I want the photo to elongate my legs. With this angle, it appears as if I’m taller.

3. Choose a good background that won’t distract from the subject of the photo. Some people prefer a clean, white background but it’s also fun to choose interesting scenery to keep the feed looking colorful and lively.

Onto Editing!

My favorite apps to use are AfterLight, VscoCam, PhotoWonder, and Aviary:

This is what I primarily use to give my photos a rustic, bright, colorful theme. In Afterlight, I first clarify the photo to make my photos more HD. Then I increase the brightness and exposure to give my photos more light if needed. Finally, I add the filter, RUSS (located in the Guest tab) to give my photos a smooth but “rustic” feel.

For example:

2. VSCOcam

Vsco Cam

Sometimes, I’ll go into VSCOcam to upload the edited photo onto my grid. (You should go follow me @itssherylok).

If I’m not yet satisfied, I will increase the saturation and use the filter, A5 to give my photo a touch of cool tone.

3. PhotoWonder

If sometimes, I forget to tell my photographer to angle the camera, the photo ends up making me look really short and disproportionate. I’ll use the app PhotoWonder (which is free!). It comes with a lovely feature called, “Shape Leg” which lets you adjust the length of your legs.

IMG_7337 IMG_7348

4. Aviary

Lastly, I will use Aviary to add text on the photo. To trademark that the photo belongs to me, I’ll just add (@style.stargirl) in the corner.

And that’s it! My feed is by no means, perfect, but I love the process of taking and editing photos. Instagram is a really fun and easy way to express yourself, so don’t worry if you don’t have the “perfect theme” yet. Those were just a few tips to get you started.
